Who Is It For

Who Is This Permit For?

A board member residence permit in Latvia applies to foreign nationals who:

01

are founders, co-owners, or directors of Latvian companies

02

are actively involved in managing a business in Latvia

03

are planning long-term residence in Latvia with a view to eventually applying for a permanent permit

04

need to arrange residence permits for family members at the same time

Requirements

Key Requirements for a Latvia Director Residence Permit

Four conditions must all be satisfied:

**Minimum share capital:** at least €2,800
**Company age:** registered and actively operating for at least 1 year before the application date
**Board member salary:** at least €3,370 per month after the permit is issued
**Annual tax contributions:** the company must pay at least €21,500 in taxes per year after the permit is issued

In practice, PMLP (Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs) looks closely at whether the salary is genuinely paid and whether the tax figures reflect real business activity — a company that exists on paper only will not survive the renewal stage.

Advantages

What the Permit Covers

Holders of a board member residence permit Latvia have

the right to legal residence in Latvia and a personal code Latvia, issued upon registration
authorisation to perform management functions within the company
the right to annual renewal, so long as conditions continue to be met
the ability to include a spouse and minor children in the application
freedom of movement across the Schengen Area

Conditions for Renewal

At each renewal, the company must demonstrate it is running a genuine operation. Specifically:

  • actual economic activity must be taking place
  • the board member’s salary must be paid regularly
  • taxes and social contributions must be up to date as a tax resident Latvia
  • the company must show it is economically viable

A company with no turnover and no tax history is grounds for refusal. This is the single most common reason renewals are denied.
